Scrumptious is an excellent modern English early dessert apple, and popular in tasting tests.

The flavour is what sets this apple apart from other early apple varieties, as the apples become genuinely sweet when planted in a sunny position. It's a great example of how growers are once again looking at flavour as the most important characteristic in a good apple.

Scrumptious is also an easy variety to grow, and the apples can be picked over a period of a couple of weeks rather than all at once.

Pollination guide for Scrumptious apple trees

Scrumptious is self-fertile and does not need a pollination partner, although fruiting may be improved if there is a compatible tree of a different variety nearby. Since it flowers in the middle of the blossom season it can be pollinated by most other apple trees.

Our online pollination checker lists suitable pollination partners for this variety.

How to grow Scrumptious apple trees

Scrumptious was developed specially for UK gardens by the English apple breeder Hugh Ermen.

Scrumptious is self-fertile apple variety, so no pollination partner is needed, and the blossom also has some resistance to frost.

To get the full red colour make sure you plant in a sunny aspect.
