Pollination guide for Avalon Pride

Avalon Pride is self-fertile and does not need a pollination partner, although fruiting may be improved if there is a compatible tree of a different variety nearby.

Important: advice about pollination

How to grow Avalon Pride peach trees

Avalon Pride is well suited to the UK climate, and has some tolerance of early frosts. For best results it should be planted in a sheltered position in full sun.

Although sometimes promoted as resistant to peach-leaf curl, it is by no means disease-proof, just a bit less susceptible than other varieties. It should therefore be protected from infection in late winter / early spring - covering the tree with a fleece is a good method.

Historical details

Avalon Pride was discovered as a chance seedling growing near Seattle, USA. This is one of the few areas of the USA where the local climate is similar to the cool temperate maritime climate of the UK.
