Aromatnaya quince trees

  • Pick: Late-season
  • Flowering group: 3
  • Self-fertile
  • Uses: Eat fresh | Cookery
  • Disease-resistance: Good

Aromatnaya is a heavy-cropping self-fertile quince, and a good choice for growing in sunny areas in the UK.

Although primarily a fruit for cooking with, Aromatnaya is also one of the few quinces that can be eaten raw. The fruits should be picked and then left to ripen for a few days, and have a tropical flavour, somewhat reminiscent of melon or pineapple. They add an unusual touch if grated thinly on to fruit salads.

Pollination guide for Aromatnaya

Aromatnaya is in flowering group 3. Aromatnaya is self-fertile and does not need a pollination partner, although fruiting may be improved if there is a compatible tree of a different variety nearby. Since it flowers in the middle of the blossom season it can be pollinated by most other quince trees.
