Planting an apple tree where a cypress tree used to be
Question:
I am cutting down a Cyprus Fir tree to replace with my new apple tree. Any advice on how I should treet the soil before I plant the tree please?

Answer:
Hi Stephen. Yes, I would start by trying to remove as much of the old Cypress root system as possible - depending on the size of the old tree that could mean excavating quite a large area. You can then backfill the hole with regular topsoil, and then plant the new apple tree.
Since this dry spell looks set to continue, make sure you water the new tree regularly.
