All about Royal Burgundy flowering cherry trees
Royal Burgundy is the most popular of the bronze-leaved flowering cherries, and an excellent choice if you are looking for a late-flowering variety.
It is a delightful tree, with superb dark pink blossom, which is accentuated by the deep bronze colours of the emerging foliage. The flowers and leaves emerge at about the same time.
Over the summer the striking bronze foliage gives it a real presence.
In the autumn the leaves turn a spectacular fiery red, making this one of the best flowering cherries for autumn colour.
History
Royal Burgundy is effectively a bronze-leaved form of the popular Kanzan flowering cherry, to which it is closely related. It shares Kanzan's gardener-friendly characteristics and profuse deep pink blossom.
