A tall upright silver birch with pendulous weeping shoots which cascade down from its branches.
In autumn the serrated leaves turn yellow.
The bark is white, and becomes fissured as the tree ages.
Like most silver birches Tristis is not fussy the planting situation - any sunny or lightly-shaded location will do. It is similarly versatile with respect to soil conditions, except it will not tolerate waterlogging.
