All about Field Maple maple

The Field Maple is often overshadowed by more exotic Acers, but makes a fine large specimen tree. It can also be used to form tall hedges.

Like many other maple species the autumn leaf colours are a particular feature.

Clusters of dull yellow - green flowers are produced in spring. They have little ornamental value but are very attractive to bees because they produce a lot of nectar.

Winged seeds are produced in autumn.

Growing and Training

Field Maples are very easy to grow, they will thrive in most soil situations and can tolerate some waterlogging over the winter.

They can be pruned back at any time of the year.

History

Acer campestre is native to the UK and Europe.
