Sanctus Hubertus is a good-cropping early-season blue / purple plum. It typically ripens in late July in the UK.

This is a dual-purpose variety. For eating fresh make sure the plums are fully ripe before picking, at which point they should have a fairly rich sweet flavour. For use in the kitchen pick them a bit earlier.

Despite the traditional-sounding name, Sanctus Hubertus is actually quite a recent plum variety, introduced in the 1960s. It is a cross between two old European varieties, Mater Dolorosa and Early Rues. It is named after Saint Hubert, a Bishop of Liege in the 9th century.
