John Bond rowan

Sorbus hemsleyi
John Bond has received the RHS Award of Garden Merit
  • Fruit colour: Brown
  • Awards: RHS AGM (current) 2012

John Bond belongs to a different species of Sorbus from most rowans and whitebeams, but has many similarities with whitebeams - particularly the striking white undersides of its leaves.

It grows in a neat compact columnar form. There are clusters of white flowers in late spring, followed by brown berry-like fruitlets in autumn.
