All about Hally Jolivette flowering cherry trees

Hally Jolivette is an attractive medium-sized flowering cherry. It features bright white semi-double flowers.

By the standards of ornamental cherries the blossom is quite long-lasting, regularly exceeding 2 weeks. This is because, unusually for a flowering cherry, the individual flowers do not all open at once. Flowering also tends to start from a very young age, and it is quite common for a 2-year old tree to have blossom.

History

Hally Jolivette was raised by Dr Karl Sax of the Arnold Arboretum in Boston, USA, during the 1940s, and named after his wife. The story of its development is told in an article by his great grand-son.
